Some of the biggest lies spoken by PM Modi & his team in 2018

It’s 2019. People say one should forget about the past and should keep moving forward. But, here, we bring to you some of the biggest lies spoken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ‘followers’.

Fact Checker busted some of the biggest lies of the current government and its supporters and here they are:

LIE: 35 Airports Built Over Last 4 Years: PM Modi

“Since Independence to 2014, over 67 years, there were 65 airports. i.e. an average of one airport per year whereas for the past four years, on average, nine airports have been built per year,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on September 24, 2018, at the inauguration of Sikkim’s first airport in Pakyong.

TRUTH:

Between 2014 and 2018, only seven airports were made operational, which makes it about two airports every year.

LIE: Aadhaar + Direct Benefit Transfer Gain of Rs 90,000 Cr: Arun Jaitley

“The saving due to Aadhaar and direct benefit transfer is Rs 90,000 crore per year. Rs 90,000 crore per year means four schemes like Ayushman Bharat (National Health Protection Scheme) can be implemented,” Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said on November 2, 2018.

TRUTH:

Government data shows that Rs. 90,000 crore was not saved every year, but cumulatively till March 2018.

LIE: Government Gave Farmers Rs 80,000 crore: UP CM Yogi Adityanath

“In the last 10 months, Uttar Pradesh government has disbursed over Rs 80,000 crore to farmers via direct benefit transfer,” Adityanath said in an interview on February 19, 2018.

TRUTH:

Fact Checker accessed government’s DBT dashboard and found out that the UP government gave Rs 14,540 crore in 2017-18 as direct benefit transfers (DBT) through 682.5 million transactions.

LIE: Smart Cities: Rs 2 lakh Cr Budget

“100 smart cities are being developed at an expenditure of over Rs 2 lakh crore,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed on the completion of four years of the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) government in office at the Centre.

TRUTH:

From the government’s projected budget of Rs. 2 lakh crore, only 0.09 per cent of funds have been used. Less than a quarter of the funds (Rs 48,000 crore) was approved by the union cabinet at the launch of the mission in 2015, and only 21% had been disbursed and 1.8% utilised till March 2018.

LIE: No Riots in Gujarat, MP, UP & Chhattisgarh After Our Governments Came To Power: BJP Chief Amit Shah

“Why do our governments return to power? In Gujarat, we have governed for 27 years, in Madhya Pradesh for 15 years, in Chhattisgarh for 15 years. Why do our governments return? Development is the main reason. And they accuse us of being a communal party. After our government was formed in Gujarat, not even a single riot took place. In Madhya Pradesh not a single riot occurred, in Chhattisgarh not a single riot occurred. In Uttar Pradesh, after our government was formed, riots have stopped,” BJP president Amit Shah said in an interview to Zee News on November 23, 2018.

TRUTH:

According to NCRB data, 32,050 riots were recorded between 2003-2016 in Madhya Pradesh. According to NCRB data, as many as 12,265 incidents of ‘riots’ were reported in Chhattisgarh from 2003 to 2016. According to a reply by Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir to the Lok Sabha on February 6, 2018, 195 communal riots were reported in Uttar Pradesh in 2017. BJP came to power in UP in March 2017.

LIE: No Data On Lynching: Minister To Parliament

“The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) does not maintain specific data with respect to lynching incidents in the country,” the union minister of state for home affairs, Hansraj Ahir, told the Rajya Sabha on July 18, 2018.

TRUTH:

Data compiled by the Home Minister shows that between 2014 and March 3, 2018, 40 cases of mob lynching across nine states were reported, which led to the death of 45 people and injured 2017.

LIE: No Bombings In Modi Era: Sadhguru

“We must know and acknowledge and appreciate and enjoy one thing…that in the last four years there have been no bomb blasts in the country… Whatever is happening is only in the border area and unfortunately in Kashmir,” Sadhguru was reported as saying in DNA on September 16, 2018.

TRUTH:

Hundred of bombings have been reported nationwide over the four years to 2018, with 2016 alone recording 400, according to government data.

LIE: No Riots In UP During My Tenure: Yogi Adityanath

“Two years of my term will be completed in March. In my tenure so far, no riots have taken place,” Adityanath tweeted on January 3, 2019.

TRUTH:

According to a reply by Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs Hansraj Gangaram Ahir to the Lok Sabha on February 6, 2018, 822 incidents of communal violence took place in India in 2017, out of which 195 were reported from Uttar Pradesh in 2017.
