Social media is the latest and the easiest medium to spread fake news and hatred. The newest in the list of lies are fake quotes attributed to a few Congress leaders to portray them as sympathetic towards the alleged rapist.
AltNews showed three such fake quotes attributed to Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, and proved that they are nothing but fake quotes.

“Muslims cannot rape. This is a scheme by BJP to malign the reputation of our Muslim brothers,” is a statement shared by a Facebook page BJP Khargone Barwani, which attracted more than 8700 shares. However, it is nothing but a false statement being circulated by the Right-wing.
“Rahul Gandhi never made this comment. Such obnoxious trolling and manufacturing of lies will not deter us from speaking the truth to those in power,” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.
- Jyotiraditya Scindia
Once again, serial purveyor of fake news, Indiaflare.com was the culprit behind a fake quote attributed to the Congress Madhya Pradesh MP. An article published by this site claimed Scindia demanding a CBI enquiry in the Mandsaur rape case, citing the possibility of the perpetrator Irfan being innocent.

Again, Indiaflare.com claimed Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala saying, “Mohammed Irfan cannot be considered a rapist because Islam permits the rape of women from another religion. He should be released”.
“This is another instance of fake news by BJP trolls. I have never made such a statement. A rapist is a rapist and needs to be punished in accordance with the law. A rapist cannot be adjudged on the basis of caste or religion,” Surjewala told Alt News.
