Recently, several claims were made on social media alleging that members of the Muslim community filed a petition in the Supreme Court against holding a Hindu ritual ‘Mata ki Chowki’ in public spaces.
Lawyer Prashant Patel, who has a verified account on Twitter was also seen endorsing this fake news.
“Petition against Mata ki Chowki & other religious functions being held in public parks, is filed at Supreme Court by peaceful. Should Hindus allow Namaj & Muharram on roads?” he tweeted.
However, Patel deleted the tweet a day later but 24 hours were enough for the fire of hate to spread. It was liked by more than 1,000 people and attracted 700 retweets.
Not only Twitter, but the word also spread on Facebook, with many people sharing the tweet as is.
Alt News busted this fake news.
Neither was the petition filed by Muslims nor was it filed against the ritual. In fact, it was filed against National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) order denying holding ‘Mata ki Chowki’ at a South-West Delhi park.
The petition had been filed by ‘Jyoti Jagran Manch’ against the NGT’s order.
Also, what is in fact, worthy noting is that Advocate Fuzail Ayyubi, the counsel for ‘Jyoti Jagran Manch’ tweeted about the same. He said, “Hon Supreme Court today referred my matter Jyoti Jagran Mandal to CJI for placing it before the Constitution Bench…”
However, as Ayyubi bears a Muslim name, the trolls assumed him to be the one opposing the Hindu ritual.
Without applying their brains, the trolls started targeting him, but thank God for the sane people out there on Twitter, who came out in Ayyubi’s defence and said he was the counsel for the petitioner ‘Jyoti Jagran Manch’.
He tried to say the same through one his replies to a Twitter user. “I’m for mata ki choki. Saying the same thing,” he tweeted.

A pattern can be seen in which members of the minority community are being targeted and there is a clear agenda of creating a gap and encouraging hatred between Hindus and Muslims.
