TRUTH: Crimes against women, Dalits and minorities increased since Yogi came to power.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh claims that the law and order situation has improved since Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, but what else can one expect from a party that lies so confidently that one has to wonder if they live in a parallel universe. In this universe where facts still exist, despite the government’s attempt to eradicate them from the face of the Earth, crimes in UP have increased since Yogi took over as the Chief Minister.
Let us look at some facts:
Crimes against women have gone up 33% since Yogi became CM. Cases of rape have increased by 26% and assault for outraging the modesty of a woman went up by 40% but the most pronounced increase has been in cases of harassment where there has been a 99% increase since the previous government. Perhaps the anti-Romeo squads should have been told that they were created to stop harassment and not practice it.
Yogi Adityanath has gone to several states claiming that empowering women is the only way to stop crimes against them, yet he is against reservation because that will hinder their roles as mothers, daughters and sisters. He has also said, “Considering the importance and honour of women… our scriptures have always spoken about giving her protection… As energy can go waste and cause damage if left free and uncontrolled, women power also does not require freedom, but protection…” and that “a home gets destroyed when women become as effective as men.”
Crimes against Dalits and minorities: According to a report by Citizens Against Hate there have been at least 16 incidents of extra-judicial killings in UP and all the victims were from vulnerable communities like Dalits and Muslims. Despite claiming that these people were killed in encounters, multiple reports of torture were reported. Riots that took place were ignored
The encounters or extra-judicial killings that the Yogi government are so proud of have been labeled ‘fake’ by the opposition. Several have accused the BJP of misusing the police to intimidate people with fake encounters. And the number of dead has risen to 50. In the meantime, Yogi’s government is attempting to withdraw the cases against him which include murder and rioting. When the law is theirs and order is of their making, we should not be surprised when chaos ensues.
Joseph Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda minister said, “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
As Indian citizens, we should be worried that our government and its ministers appear to be practicing Goebbels words to the letter.
