LIE: “Jahan pura desh, pragati ke taraf badh raha hai, Karnataka mein ulti ganga beh rahi hai.”

TRUTH: PM Modi does not understand the meaning of development

On the 1st of May, PM Modi made some rather interesting statements during his speech at a rally in Karnataka. Below are some of his statement:

“Jahan pura desh, pragati ke taraf badh raha hai, Karnataka mein ulti ganga beh rahi hai.”

(While the entire country is moving forward, Karnataka is moving backward)

“We have had entrepreneurs who are providing jobs to so many people. And hence we are making loan sanctioning process easier.”

“To help farmers we are going to start Grameen Retail Agricultural Market, where they will receive the proper price for their crops. But this will only benefit Karnataka completely if BS Yeddyurappa becomes the CM.”

“During the Congress regime, farmers have had to face a lot of trouble. They have protested and been beaten up too. But we have decided to change that.”

Understandably PM Modi does not understand the meaning of development since by all unbiased units of measures he has taken the country back several years – a sluggish economy, repeated farmer protests, atrocities committed in the name of religion, caste and gender – or perhaps he thinks that is progress? By a non-saffron coloured lens – Karnataka under CM Siddaramaiah has developed much beyond even Gujarat – the state PM Modi lauds for development.

Karnataka still remains the country’s biggest software exporter but the real story of reform comes from its agricultural sector.

Karnataka’s farmers have 38 percent more income in 2015-16 than 2013-14 according to a report by NITI Aayog. Fair pricing through the Agriculture Price Commission and e – markets have helped lakhs.

The state policies have provided farmers with agricultural machinery, drip and sprinkler irrigation methods to reduce their dependence on rain. Solar powered irrigation pump sets are provided at 90 percent subsidy.

Karnataka has remained committed to inclusiveness – from introducing a scheme to provide pensions to transgender individuals to providing financial assistance to students from backward classes – CM Siddaramaiah has ensured that no one in his state is left behind.

Though he did mention that “entrepreneurs who are providing jobs to so many people and hence we are making loan sanctioning process easier.” Excellent idea, Sir, though perhaps you should know that Karnataka already has an excellent policy for start – ups.

These are the facts, unfortunately, facts would not result in a dramatic speech.
