Images from abroad shown as Chhattisgarh highways

On September 30, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Chhattisgarh tweeted a creative having photos of three expressways and captioned it as, “विश्वास से विकास का सफर। #BadhtaChhattisgarh (The journey from trust to development #BadhtaChhattisgarh).”

It tried to portray how the development under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is visible and how the face of infrastructure in the state has changed under the saffron party.

The third image on the extreme left in the creative is of an expressway in Toronto.

Alt News did a Google reverse search of the third image and found a Shutterstock link redirecting to a section “Toronto Traffic Photos” on the website. It was found that an identical image was uploaded by a photographer named Elena Elisseeva.

According to AltNews, the first image shared in the creative is not of a highway in Chhatisgarh but is of the Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, whereas the second image looked like that of the Delhi-Jaipur Highway but it mentioned that it could not establish the origin of the photograph.

Sharing such photos to show infrastructural development is something the ruling party has been doing ever since. Last year, a vietnamese bridge was passed off as one in Raigarh by Chhattisgarh PWD minister Rajesh Munat.

Verification should be made before posting pictures of some other places and trying to show them as of a particular state to indicate development. It is wrong, whether posted without having knowledge about it or the other way around.
